Jalisco Emerges as National Sports Leader with 91 Medals at Central American and Caribbean Games

After completing the twenty-fourth edition of the contest held in San Salvador, Jalisco consolidates as a national sports leader, with a contribution of 91 medals to the team (25%)

Jalisco athletes who represented Mexico in the twenty-fourth edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games, held in San Salvador, will return home with the satisfaction of having accomplished their duty, after becoming the main provider of medals for the country in this call.

It was a representation of 87 athletes from Jalisco (including six soccer players from the men’s team, gold winners) who defended the colors of Mexico, of which 81.6% managed to ascend to the podium for one of the medals in dispute: 37 occasions were for gold medal, 29 for silver and 25 for bronze; that is to say, a quarter of the total medals of our country carried the Jalisco seal. Not to mention also that of the 353 medals achieved by our delegation (145 gold, 108 silver, 100 bronze); 124 were worked on by coaches from Jalisco (inside or outside our state), or by athletes from other entities who trained throughout the year at Code facilities and under the sports system of our state.

Disciplines such as artistic swimming (with five gold medals), field hockey (two), sailing (one), and triathlon (four) deserve a separate issue, with 100% of their gold medals having at least one auriazul athlete .

In addition, figures such as Miranda Grana (swimming); Aram Peñaflor (triathlon), and Miriam Rodríguez (badminton), with three golds each, rose as the top medalists among the group of Jalisco in competition; as well as Nuria Diosdado, of artistic swimming, who obtained four golds and two silvers to reach 18 gold medals in her sports career, within this regional fair, and thus become the highest medal winner in Mexico in its history within the Central American Games. .

And although the names of experienced athletes can be read in the list of participants, 18 competitors who recently participated in the CONADE 2023 Nationals also stood out in this edition, winning medals for our state, and now they do so internationally within this contest, contributing 24 medals in San Salvador; among them, Arantxa Cossío and Juan Jesús Gómez (table tennis); Miranda Grana; Elizabeth Nieves, Michelle Quezada, Carlos Quintero and Carlos Quezada shooting; and Fernando Rodríguez, canoeing, among others.

There were 29 countries that, by winning less than one medal in this edition, appeared in the medal table of the event; however, the figures presented only by the auriazules surpass what was achieved by 26 countries. That is to say, with its results, Jalisco could have been placed in the fourth position of the medal table.

It is in this context that Jalisco once again positions itself as a leader in Mexican sports, consolidating itself as number one in events such as CONADE Nationals for more than 20 consecutive years; and maintain continuity among its athletes once their youth stage has passed, and already reaching international level participation, in which, beyond only fulfilling a presence in the national team, they leave their mark with an important contribution of medals.
