One of the things that Carlos Cuevas has enjoyed the most during his almost 50-year career has been seeing how his songs reach the hearts of lovers who come to his shows.
And it is that since its inception it has focused on the bolero genre, which usually talks about love in its purest form, causing an immediate connection with the public at concerts.
“I have really enjoyed that energy, that communion that I have with the public when I sing some of the songs and you hear the sigh of the people, or they start to sing and dance to it,” he tells in an interview with El Sol de México.
“They give me a rose or send me napkins to sing them the song they want, it is a communion of the public with me,” added the singer.
The songs Un bolero, with which he won the OTI Festival in 1990, Sabor a mí, Refrán, and some others from the pen of Armando Manzanero, are the ones that his fans usually ask for.
“It depends on the place, it’s how I put together the repertoire, I always have something to start and close with, but in the middle of the show is when I start to change, with songs that are requested there,” he explains about his process to select his setlist.
A MODERN CUPID
Regarding how the reactions of his audience tend to be, he assures that they are very varied. Being on stage, he manages to see “nostalgia or a lot of joy” among the spectators, depending on the theme he is interpreting.
Of course there has been no shortage of marriage proposals. Carlos Cuevas comments that there have even been fans who have asked him to give the ring to his fiancée. “I serve as Cupid, for my songs. Since I started singing bolero, I have always sung to the couple in love, ”he comments with a laugh.
Of the numerous couples who have become engaged at his shows, he has only heard of two who failed to make it to the altar. The last time he acted as an intermediary was just a few days ago, during a presentation in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
PREPARE ROMANTIC PARTY
To continue preaching love, the bolero singer is preparing his concert for next July 15, in a new venue in Mexico City, called Santa Fe Music Hall, which promises “a romantic party, full of beautiful songs by great composers, recalling especially the Mexicans.

In addition to this show, he will continue to participate in the Sonora Santanera tour, Torreón being the next city to visit, and on August 4 he returns to the capital, to perform at the Lunario, where he will do a show for the benefit of the Hospital del Niño Morelense from Cuernavaca.
“That is the most beautiful. When God gives you the opportunity to earn money with your voice, why not distribute it, that’s the most beautiful thing in my profession,” the singer concluded.
