2nd Under 15 Baseball Tournament against Violence Against Women and Children

VITERBO – Viterbo baseball organizes the 2nd Under 15 Tournament “Against violence against women and children”. In addition to Stella Carni Viterbo, regional champion of Lazio and qualified for the semifinals for the national title, the Etruscan Fighters, regional champions Tuscany and they too qualified for the semi-finals for the Italian title, BSC Grossetto, qualified for the quarter-finals of the Scudetto, the Academy Nettuno, reigning Italian champion and the now friendly club of Viterbo, Roma Brewers.

The matches will start on Friday at 9.30, with the opening match Roma Brewers – Stella Carni Viterbo and will continue until Saturday and then conclude on Sunday with the finals.

Given the participating teams, the tournament promises to be of a high technical level and will be a good test bench for the boys from Viterbo in view of the championship play-offs in September.

The Tournament, as mentioned, is in its second edition, the first, in which, in addition to the home team, Roma Brewers took part and Perugia was won by the team from Viterbo.

This year the Viterbo company has broadened its horizons by organizing a three-day tournament, with 5 participating teams, which involves a considerable organizational effort, supported for the most part by the managers and above all by the parents of the baseball girls and boys who for three days they will provide meals and assistance to visiting teams.

The need for a tournament against violence against women and children stems from the idea that the Viterbo Baseball Club has of sport. Not just healthy competitive competition, with the motto “Adversaries always enemies never“, but also from the awareness that sport can and must be a tool to combat all forms of discrimination and violence and that it is a tool for social growth and to combat gender-based violence.

Violence against women and children is unfortunately a fairly widespread phenomenon and only through a cultural change that starts from educating young people about respect can we do something to prevent it and as a baseball club in our small way we try to educate kids about all of this, involving them in sporting activities where, in addition to competition, there is also education in respect for others.

All participating teams will wear a red bow on their uniform, a symbol of the fight against gender-based violence.

In addition to the Municipality of Viterbo which has given its patronage, the Penelope Anti-Violence Center and staff of the Viterbo Police Headquarters will participate in the Tournament, all subjects in the front line in the fight against gender-based violence, who are and must also become a point for young people of reference to contrast this sad phenomenon.
