With his victory over Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas on Sunday, Novak Djokovic reached the quarterfinals at the French Open for the 17th time. This is a record on Parisian sand. In the semi-final he meets the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz this Friday (3 p.m.).

Djokovic, the current world No. 3 has never made a secret of wanting to break as many records as possible. But he still has a lot of work ahead of him. Proof of that are these 12 brands:

Number of Grand Slam titles

Novak Djokovic has won 22 Grand Slam titles – the same number as Rafael Nadal. The Serb and the Spaniard jointly hold the record in men’s tennis.

However, the all-time record belongs to Margaret Court. The 80-year-old Australian has won a total of 24 Majors. Serena Williams has frozen her count at 23.

Number of titles in a single Grand Slam tournament

Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open ten times, the Grand Slam tournament in which he was by far the most successful. However, the Serb is still far from the absolute record. This one belongs to Rafael Nadal, who triumphed a monumental 14 times at Roland Garros.

Number of Wimbledon titles

For many purists, Wimbledon is THE Mecca of tennis. Novak Djokovic has won the title seven times here. That’s one fewer than Roger Federer, who is the most successful player in history on the London lawn. So Djokovic, who feels very comfortable on this surface, will try to level this mark this year.

Number of Grand Slam finals

Earlier this year, Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. It was the Serb’s 33rd final at a Grand Slam. If he reaches the final at the French Open, he will equal Chris Evert’s record. The 68-year-old American played 34 times in a final and won 18 titles.

Number of years as world number 1

If he finishes the calendar year as world No. 1 in December, Djokovic (currently ATP 3) will equal the record for the number of times on the throne at the end of the season. This belongs to the German Steffi Graf (53), who has completed eight years on the chair of the world number one.

Number of tournament wins

In total, Novak Djokovic has won 93 titles on the ATP Tour. Belgrade-born Djokovic is still a long way off the record set by 70-year-old American Jimmy Connors, who lifted 109 trophies. For comparison: Roger Federer ended his career with 103 titles.

Number of games won on the tour

This brand also belongs to Jimmy Connors: he won 1274 games on the ATP tour (win rate: 82 percent). Djokovic has had 1052 wins so far (win rate: 83 percent).

Make the grand slam

The only tennis player who managed the calendar Grand Slam – winning all four Grand Slam titles in the same year – was the Australian Rod Laver in 1969.

Novak Djokovic came close to that success in 2011 and 2015, but failed at the French Open in each case. And in 2021 the Serb had won the first three majors of the year (Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon) but was then stopped in the US Open final by Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic, who had already won the title in Melbourne earlier this year, can dream of this feat in 2023.

Get all six major titles

There are six main titles in tennis: the four Grand Slam tournaments, the Masters at the end of the year and the Olympic Games. Only one player has won them all: 53-year-old Andre Agassi.

Novak Djokovic is just one Olympic gold medal away from level with the American. Federer was missing Olympic gold and Nadal the Masters to surpass Agassi.

Number of consecutive wins in a Grand Slam

Novak Djokovic has been unbeaten at the Australian Open since 2018. He has won 28 games in a row there, that streak is still ongoing. However, the Serb is still a long way from the record for consecutive victories in a single Grand Slam tournament. This belongs to the Swede Björn Borg (67), who was able to record 41 successes in a row at Wimbledon.

Number of Masters won

Novak Djokovic, along with Roger Federer, holds the record for most titles at the year-end tournament of the best: six. The Serb has a chance to take the sole lead in this ranking at the Masters at the end of this season.

Number of consecutive games won

It is perhaps the record – besides the number of Grand Slam titles – that will be the most difficult for Djokovic to break. This mark was set in 1977 by 70-year-old Argentine Guillermo Villas, who won 46 duels in a row.

The Serb wasn’t far from that mark in 2011. But Roger Federer halted his streak of 41 consecutive wins in a stratospheric semifinal at the French Open.
