Latvian volleyball players continue the Silver League tournament with success / Diena

After winning the first set, Latvian volleyball players quickly gained a three-point advantage (9:6) at the beginning of the second set, which they managed to increase to seven points by the end of the set.

Also in the third set, the Latvians played convincingly and at one point outscored their opponents by nine points, but at the end of the match, the home team lost some points, as the Latvian volleyball players ended the third set with a seven-point lead.

Among the winners, Marta Kamelia Levinska was the top scorer with 20 points, while Tamara Stojanova stood out among the opponents with 13 points.

Latvian volleyball players started the European Silver League tournament on Saturday, Tartu losing 1-3 to Estonia. North Macedonia played at home and convincingly lost to Austria with 0-3.

In continuation, the Latvians will play against Austria on June 3rd in Rida, on June 10th the Austrians will be hosted at the “Rimi” Olympic Center in Riga, where on June 14th the match against North Macedonia will also take place. On June 17, at the Zemgale Olympic Center in Jelgava, the group tournament will be concluded with a match against Estonia.

From the list of 17 candidates, as well as to Estonia, the injured Kristine Gabranova, as well as Kristine Leskinovića and Vlada Pridatko, who are likely to participate in some of the next Silver League games, did not go on this trip.

Last weekend in Paide, the Latvian national team met Estonia twice in test matches, losing 1-3 and 2-3.

As the host of the final four tournament, Austria has already secured a place among the best. The other three teams will fight for the remaining ticket to the final four in Graz, whose matches are scheduled for June 24 and 25.

The winners of the European Silver League will get the right to play in the stronger European Gold League next season.

The Latvian volleyball players, who played in the Silver League in 2021, did not participate in the European League matches last summer, as it was decided to focus on the U-21 national team, in which a large part of the adult national team candidates played.
