Athletics celebrate 2-0 shutout at Sweep in Stuttgart

The Mainz Athletics made the one-two in their series against the Stuttgart Reds in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga on Saturday perfect with a 2-0 win. After spoiling the Reds’ home premiere with an 11-1 win on Friday night, the A’s celebrated the sweep and consolidated their top-3 spot in the South table.
The decision on Saturday was made late. At first, both pitching staffs had everything under control. Stuttgart’s Dustin Ward didn’t allow any hits in the first six innings. However, the first hit of the Mainz team immediately made the preliminary decision. An RBI double by Marlon Jimenez ended the no-hitter attempt in the seventh inning. Peter Johannessen, who opened the passage with a walk, made it 1-0. A section later, Marlon Jimenez followed up with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Stuttgart was able to record four hits and four walks against the Mainz pitching. But it wasn’t enough for runs. Brady Tedesco allowed three hits and three bases on balls in five innings with eight strikeouts. Yannic Wildenhain then inherited the win with four first-class innings of relief, allowing only one hit and one walk on six strikeouts.
Ward ultimately conceded the loss after seven innings, two hits, two runs and four base on balls with nine strikeouts.
