The Mercedes has announced an important update on its single-seater that will concern the area of sidepod and which at the moment sees the Freccia nera of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on the track with practically small bellies. This was reported by the technical director of the Star Mike Elliott, during the team press conference held in the afternoon in Sakhir. In fact, Elliott confirmed what Toto Wolff had told the media in recent days, even if it will take time to see what can be considered a new version of the W14.
“Toto already said that we have some new bodywork on the way, it won’t be the same as that of the others and it won’t be the same as what we have: it will be different – said Elliott – It’s part of normal development. We have a very different sidepod on the way. I think Toto told the press. But it takes time to bring it. It takes time to design the pieces, it takes time to change and adapt them: we will bring it as soon as possible”.
Continuing to talk about the W14, Elliott focused on the rear wing. “An element that seems to work correctly on the latest addition to Brackley, with some less glaring changes that were made to the single-seater once the pre-season tests were concluded”.
“I guess the obvious visual difference is the rear wing – he reported – This is something we didn’t bring to winter testing and something we have here and it’s doing exactly what we expected it to do. But there are also some configuration things that we changed based on the data we found, the data we looked at after the test event.”
The technical chief of the Stella, completing his technical analysis, then added: “After the winter tests we didn’t have all the answers we were looking for, we used FP1 to continue learning while waiting for the most important sessions. We’ll see where we are.”
