Before the presentation of Super Bowl LVII, it’s the media circus with the players of the Chiefs and the Eagles and, unsurprisingly, Patrick Mahomes is in great demand by the media a few days before the big game.
Always gracious in his responses, the former league MVP plays the game with a smile.
Except that a moment of the Chiefs media day detonated this week, even that we felt a certain uneasiness before really understanding what was going on.

In this video, a member of the media can be heard asking Mahomes how he felt about Rihanna calling him the best quarterback in NFL history.
All smiles, Mahomes took the compliment candidly while pointing out that he was very happy to hear about it and that several members of his family were on hand to see the singer deliver a fiery performance during the halftime show. .
The thing is, it wasn’t true.
The journalist immediately curbed Mahomes’ momentum by saying that he was silly and then followed up with a serious question.
OUCH!
On the other hand, when you dig a little, things are explained (but it remains a dubious joke).
In fact, the reporter was rather former NFL Brandon Marshall. After his football career, he founded I Am Athlete, a sports and cultural media that offers a “safe space” platform for athletes. NFL alumni like Adam Jones and LeSean McCoy also participate in their production. The angle of I Am Athlete is to allow athletes to control the narrative angle of their stories.
You have to admit that a joke like this is a rather ironic way to promote a “safe space”.
But hey, it was just a joke and Mahomes seems to have taken it all well.
