Fred returns to Fluminense as Director of Sports Planning — Fluminense Football Club

The idol is back home! Fluminense agreed on the return of Fred, who took over this Thursday (12/01) as Director of Sports Planning. After completing specialization courses, which combine with the experience gained during his victorious career, the former striker will be responsible for planning and integrating all areas of football at the club, including professional, youth and women’s categories.

Fred starts his job with the mission of helping the football department plan for the next season. This Thursday, he participated in a meeting with the board and coach Fernando Diniz with a view to 2023, when Fluminense is looking for major titles such as winning the Libertadores.

In his new position, Fred will also be responsible for representing Fluminense on exchange trips with teams in Europe and support in sports logistics decisions. He will report to the football executive board and the club board.

Recently, Fred got his Coaches B License from the CBF Academy. He also completed a management course taught by Fernando Carvalho, former president of Internacional, which earned him the certificate of “Football Executive”. Academic specializations are added to the vast experience of a player who started his career in futsal, went through the base categories and reached, in addition to Fluminense and other big clubs in Brazil, teams in Europe and the Brazilian national team. Fred still has two World Cups played on his resume.

Fred is already immortalized in the history of Fluminense. The idol, who retired from the pitches on July 9 of this year, broke several records as a player. The eternal number 9 is the second highest scorer in the history of Tricolor and the first in official matches (199 goals), the highest scorer in the history of the Copa do Brasil (37 goals), the second highest scorer in the history of the Brazilian Championship and the greatest in the era of accrued points (158 goals) and the third Brazilian with the most goals in Libertadores (25). Fred is in the top 15 most capped players for the club (381).

For Fluminense, Fred won two Brasileirões (2010 and 2012), two Cariocas (2012 and 2022), two Guanabara Cups (2012 and 2022) and a Rio Cup (2020).
