Argentina-France: the Argentine president “wishes the best” to Macron… “except Sunday”

The final between France and Argentina has already started at the highest peak of the two states. The two presidents Alberto Fernandez and Emmanuel Macron kicked off the match in a rather friendly way in a series of tweets.

“Dear friend @EmmanuelMacron, I have a lot of affection for you and I wish you the best for the future. Except Sunday, wrote the Argentine head of state. Argentina is my wonderful country, and it’s Latin America! Go sky and white! »

Alberto Fernandez was responding to a tweet from the French president, who had himself responded to the wishes of the elected president of Brazil, Lula, who had launched this phase of the three-way game by tweeting “good luck on Sunday, my friends”, without distinction or preference shown for France or Argentina.

“Thank you, my friend @LulaOficial”, replied Emmanuel Macron. And in the same message to the Argentinian president: “Dear @alferdez, one of us will have better luck… We’ll see which one on Sunday. In all friendship… Go Les Bleus! »

Emmanuel Macron attended the semi-final against Morocco on Wednesday and will be present again on Sunday. The Argentine presidency, for its part, indicated on Thursday that there was still “no decision taken” as to a possible trip by Alberto Fernandez to the final.

Football and politics do not mix. We don’t want to mix it up, it’s up to the citizens to benefit. The president has good relations with Macron and they have exchanged, but no decision has been taken, ”said presidential spokesperson Gabriela Cerruti in a press briefing.

Alberto Fernandez’s predecessor, Mauricio Macri, president from 2015 to 2019, is in Qatar, notably as executive president of the FIFA Foundation. He attended several matches, including Argentina’s shock defeat against Saudi Arabia (1-2) in his first game. The Argentine press called him a “jinx”. But then the Albiceleste won all their matches to reach the final.
