The Basics of Football

football

Football is a team sport where players try to propel a ball into their opponent’s goal by dribbling, passing the ball to teammates, and taking shots. A goalkeeper guards the goal. As the game moves forward, opponents may try to steal control of the ball. Physical contact between opponents is rare, however. The game’s rules limit the physical contact between players. The ball moves from player to player, and play usually ends only when the ball leaves the field of play, and recommences with a specified restart.

Rules of the game

Football is a game with many rules. The first set of rules was created in 1863 by Ebenezer Cobb Morley for the Football Association. These laws still govern most international games and the national matches of member organizations. Nearly all organized football worldwide is played under these rules.

Players

Football games are usually played with eleven players. Each player plays in a different position on the field. There is a goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. Some players play a more central role on the field, while others are more mobile, and can take on different roles depending on their team’s needs.

Field

Field football is an American football sport that is played on a field that is about 160 feet long and 100 yards wide. The field may be made of grass or artificial turf. The end zones are ten yards out from the goal lines.

Goal posts

Goal posts in football are made of aluminum and are designed with a rotating sleeve that slides into a crossbar. They are then fitted with aluminum caps and welded to the post. Many goalposts also feature a wind directional flag clip.

Penalties

Football penalties refer to infractions on the field. These can range from tripping to kicking the ball, and from deliberate batting and kicking of the loose ball to illegal blocks above the waist. There are also rules pertaining to tackling and helmet use. Getting into a fight with another player can also lead to a personal foul. Other personal fouls can be more serious, such as hitting downed opponents.

Scoring

The most common way to score in football is with a touchdown. In addition to a field goal, there are other ways to score in the game. First, you can score by catching a pass or a kick. Another way to score in football is by making a safety. When a player on the offensive team is tackled inside his own end zone, the defending team is awarded two points for the safety. In addition, a safety is a way for the team to run out the clock.
