The Basics of Badminton

badminton

Badminton is a sport involving both a shuttlecock and a net. The shuttlecock must be hit with a full underhand stroke in an upward arc parallel to the sidelines. When hit correctly, the shuttlecock should land between 530 and 990 mm short of one back boundary line. The shoes worn during badminton matches should be light and comfortable with rubber soles. They should also be non-marking and low-profile.

Basic strokes

There are several basic badminton strokes, and it’s crucial for beginners to learn them to play well. These include defensive lobs, drives, dropshots, smashes, and netting. The defensive lob is used to defend against an attack, while the dropshot is used to lay the shuttlecock quickly. The drive stroke, on the other hand, is a forward swing that targets the rock bottom of the net.

Doubles is a team sport

In doubles, a team of two players takes turns serving the ball. Normally, the team that serves first gets a chance to serve before the other team does. After every point, the partners switch service boxes. The winning team is the one that wins at least three of the five games. The players cannot be in motion while serving. The server must be in the appropriate box, and the receiver must be in the proper box as well. The players do not need to be seated, though.

Singles requires extraordinary fitness

The sport of badminton requires extraordinary physical fitness. The physical demands of singles play are more than those of doubles. Unlike doubles, where a weaker partner can motivate the stronger, singles players must focus on their own game. Furthermore, they must be mentally tough since they face higher levels of pressure. Lin Dan is a famous example of this, as she has been known to produce unbelievable comebacks.

Men’s doubles is the most aggressive form of badminton

Men’s doubles is considered the most aggressive form of badminton. Players in doubles can play in any position on the court and must use their aggression to win the point. This style of game is characterized by a high percentage of powerful jump smashes and a rapid game pace.

Rules of the game

The game of badminton has different rules depending on the type of match played. If you are interested in learning more about the game, check out the Badminton Laws. These are a subset of the BWF’s Handbook and are available as a PDF Booklet or a direct download.
