NEW YORK (AP) — Former NBA player Terrence Williams has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health insurance fraud and identity theft in connection with an international fraud ring involving the league’s health plan, they said. The authorities.
Williams, 35, entered his plea in federal court in Manhattan on Friday. Sentencing for her is scheduled for January and she faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for the conspiracy charge and a mandatory minimum of two years for identity theft.

Williams was accused of being the leader of a scam, which involved submitting fraudulent claims and paperwork that was submitted for reimbursement as part of the league’s medical and dental plan.
Along with 17 other former players, he was indicted in October 2021, and authorities said they submitted claims of up to $5 million to the scheme between 2017 and 2021.

Authorities said Williams received at least $300,000 from the rest for his efforts.
In situations where the others involved resisted, the authorities indicated that Williams pretended to be someone else and threatened them to continue complying.
The former player was released prior to trial, but was arrested at the beginning of the year, because the authorities told the judge that he threatened witnesses.
As part of the plea agreement, Williams will pay $2.5 million in restitution from the plan and will have to pay $650,000 to the federal government.
