Much struggle – but unlucky
Lulu Sun loses in Canada in the 1st round
The young Swiss tennis player Lulu Sun (WTA 355) loses in the 1st round of the WTA tournament in Granby, Canada, 4:6 and 2:6 against the French world number 81 Diane Parry.
Lulu Sun steps up in her second game in the main draw of a WTA tournament.
The 21-year-old from Vaud, who played her way into the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time in her career at the preparatory tournament for the US Open in Québec, put up a good fight against her 19-year-old opponent in the first set. Sun twice made up for a break deficit, but the daughter of a Croatian and a Chinese was no longer able to react to the third loss of service.
The start of the second set failed her completely. When Parry made it 4-0, Sun hadn’t won a single point. Although she was able to make up a break and came up to 2:4, in the two following games only four rallies went in her favor, so that Parry was able to use her second match point after an hour and a half.
Despite the loss, Lulu Sun has improved compared to her first appearance at a WTA event. In May, she slipped into the Rabat main draw thanks to a wildcard, but only won three games in the first round of the tournament in Morocco against Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands. (SDA)
