After several weeks of analysis, due to reviews and complaints, the news that we were anxious to disclose has been confirmed. And it is that Cienfuegos sport has just achieved historic results in this 2022, finishing fourth in the School Gamesin addition to being located sixth in both the youth and pioneer categories.
In the school section, the athletes of the Pearl of the South achieved the unprecedented fourth place with an accumulated score of 346 points, only ten units behind Villa Clara. Two other traditional powers, Havana and Santiago de Cuba, made the one-two with 504 and 442 cards, respectively.
The Cienfuegos performance was led by archery, rowing and women’s water polo, disciplines that won the title. Other sports with commendable performances were canoeing, fencing and artistic gymnastics (2nd) and table tennis (3rd).
Athletics finished fourth, the best in its Games history, while sailing, volleyball and taekwondo finished fifth. Triathlon (6), karate, weightlifting and swimming (7), rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming (8) followed.
Further behind were beach volleyball, shooting sports, boxing and cycling (9), chess and Basque pelota (10), wrestling (11), baseball (12) and judo (15).

For their part, the youth from Cienfuegos culminated in the sixth step with 341.5 points, in a section where Havana (617.5), Santiago de Cuba (490.5) and Camagüey (401.5) occupied the podium.
By sports, ours exhibited the following results: badminton, skating, water polo, rowing and volleyball (2), rhythmic gymnastics, canoeing, taekwondo, triathlon and sailing (3), weights (5), baseball, karate and pentathlon (6 ), swimming (7), judo, Basque pelota and table tennis (8)artistic gymnastics (9), boxing (10), wrestling, shooting sports and beach volleyball (11), athletics (12) and chess (13).
A total of 194 units added the pioneers, valid to settle in sixth place. Santiagueros (340, 5), Granma residents (319, 5) and residents of the capital (305) occupied the privileged positions in that order.
In this category Cienfuegos finished in second place in canoeing, skating and archery. Chess, badminton, swimming and rowing were third, while athletics and artistic gymnastics finished fourth. Taekwondo finished fifth and table tennis in sixth position.
As if that were not enough, we learned that, even without officially computing some results, Cienfuegos remains among the first five provinces after concluding the actions of twenty sports in the first category.
It is also news that, as a reward for comprehensiveness, our territory has been selected to serve as the venue for the official opening of the next High Performance National School Games.
