Football: Bankruptcy for Bayern at CL dress rehearsal

The Bayern lead by world footballer Rober Lewandowski was not undisputed because of a possible previous offside (9th). What followed was an almost historic first half. Bayern last conceded more than three goals in the first 45 minutes in the league in 1975. This time there were four. The Munich team seemed more vulnerable on the defensive in the first year after David Alaba left. In the past five games, the series champion has only played once to zero.

Christopher Antwi-Adjei equalized (14′), Jürgen Locadia took the penalty for Bochum’s lead (38′). Dayot Upamecano had previously grabbed the ball. Two extraordinary goals followed. After half of Bayern’s back team had been duped with a “Gurkerl” and a Fersler, Cristian Gamboa finished with a shot worth seeing (40th). Four minutes later, Gerrit Hotmann flicked the ball into the far corner (44′).

Bochum were surprisingly allowed to celebrate four goals in the first half

Bochum shows Salzburg how it’s done

For the Munich team, who started with the best possible line-up, it was the highest break deficit in the Bundesliga since November 2007 (0:3 against Stuttgart). Sven Ulreich, who replaced Manuel Neuer in goal, who had had an operation on the meniscus, was not to blame. Bochum showed Salzburg how to beat the Munich star ensemble. The promoted team showed enormous fighting spirit and initially prevented another Lewandowski goal with their combined efforts (52nd).

The Pole scored his 26th league goal of the season (75′), but his free kick in the finish landed on the crossbar (86′). Bochum brought the sensational victory over time. ÖFB team player Marcel Sabitzer was allowed to play the last 15 minutes at Bayern. The first pursuer Borussia Dortmund could get the Munich team up to six points closer with a win at Union Berlin on Sunday. For Bayern it was the second defeat in five games since the Christmas break. At the start of spring they had already lost at home against Mönchengladbach (1:2).

Belated birthday present for Hütter

The Gladbachers landed their second win in the last ten league games – and against a direct competitor. Goals from Kouadio Kone (30th), Jonas Hofmann (46th) and Ramy Bensebaini (67th) made coach Hütter a little more secure in the saddle the day after his 52nd birthday. Gladbach put four points between them and Augsburg, who were lying on the relegation place and only managed to score twice. Stefan Lainer (Gladbach) and Michael Gregoritsch (Augsburg) were both replaced.

“That was an absolute liberation today,” said Hütter after the game. ÖFB team player Lainer was also relieved after the win. “A win like that should give you confidence. The old face is back,” said the right-back. And teammate Hofmann said: “We all take a load off our minds.”

Hinteregger fails twice against Wolfsburg

VfL Wolfsburg also made room for themselves in the relegation battle and is one point ahead of Gladbach after a 2-0 (1-0) win at Eintracht Frankfurt. Wolfsburg were also able to thank Martin Hinteregger for a somewhat flattering victory. The ÖFB defender only ran over Max Kruse at the edge of the penalty area. The Wolfsburg returnee pocketed the penalty himself (28′). In the finish, Hinteregger served Wolfsburg’s Dodi Lukebakio with a failed header, who struck from a tight angle (93′). Oliver Glasner’s Frankfurters only got four points from five rounds in the spring.

Freiburg and Mainz with the Austrians Philipp Lienhart and the strong Karim Onisiwo separated 1:1 (0:1). Greuther Fürth exacerbated Hertha BSC Berlin’s relegation concerns with a 2-1 (1-0) win. Fürth has only lost one of the last six games. With a nine-point deficit to Augsburg, the bottom group still has a long way to go to stay up in the league.
