Prague (AP) – The Czech doubles specialist Barbora Strycova ends her career as a professional tennis player. The 35-year-old former world number one in doubles announced her decision according to the agency CTK in Prague.
She won the Fed Cup five times with the Czech Republic. In 2019, she also won doubles at Wimbledon alongside Taiwanese Hsieh Su-wei.
Strycova stated that she was pregnant. She is planning one last farewell game at a tournament after the birth of her first son. “I always gave everything on the tennis court,” said the native Pilsen, who last competed at the Australian Open in January. She wants to stay connected with tennis – and organize training camps for children, for example. She has also recently started streaming her own talk show on Instagram.
