“The atmosphere is great,” says men’s trainer Isidor Scheuerl and alludes to the good performance of the German biathlon men at the first Home World Cup in Oberhof. In the Ruhpolding Chiemgau Arena, the ski hunters around Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer want to prove their shape increase again. In addition to Peiffer, Benedikt Doll, Philipp Horn, Johannes Kühn, Roman Rees and Philipp Nawrath are also fighting for World Cup points. “I couldn’t have imagined it better than joining here,” says Nawrath, who, like Rees, was appointed to the A team due to the very good performance in the IBU Cup.
Meanwhile, the two former world champions Erik Lesser and Simon Schempp are missing. As in the previous week, the formless Lesser starts in the second-class IBU Cup, Schempp even takes a break from training and trains. Both, previously regulars in the World Cup team and in the relay, are still missing the World Cup standard.
