Marin Pongracic moves from Salzburg to Wolfsburg. 1860 Munich again benefits from a transfer within a short time.
Just a few weeks ago, TSV 1860 Munich had been able to enjoy an unexpectedly high income. When midfielder Julian Weigl switched from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund to Benfica Lisbon for 20 million euros at the turn of the year, the lion earned around 1.5 million euros. This week, the third division soccer team has once again benefited from a transfer from two other clubs. As announced on Wednesday, the 22-year-old central defender Marin Pongracic is moving from Austrian first division club RB Salzburg to the German Bundesliga to VfL Wolfsburg. According to the kicker the transfer fee for Pongracic is around ten million euros. Just over a million euros are to flow to the Munich team, who, when moving from Pongracic to Salzburg, have a contractually agreed participation guaranteed – in the event that the Croatian should leave the club again. Pongracic had played for sixty from September 2016 to July 2017.
Pongracic, who was born in Landshut, started in the youth of FC Bayern before moving to the juniors of FC Ingolstadt 04. Because he could not prevail there, the 1.90 meter defensive player finally came to the second team from 1860 Munich. After two weeks of trial training, Pongracic was hired. “He was actually already gone,” said U21 coach Daniel Bierofka at the time and spoke of a tough fight: “We rattled each other before.” After half a year under Bierofka, Pongracic made the leap to the professionals. With coach Vitor Pereira, he came on six second division appearances. After relegation, Pongracic moved to RB Salzburg, where he won the championship in 2018 and 2019 and the cup in 2019.
It is not to be expected that the additional money earned with TSV 1860 will be invested directly in transfers. Originally, the player budget for the coming season was calculated as part of the consolidation course at 2.4 million euros. Sport manager Günther Gorenzel had emphasized a few days ago that at least the Weigl sum would at best reduce the shrinking budget. But then he knew nothing about the new money blessing.
