HSV separates at the end of the season from coach Hannes Wolf – Sport

  • It's official: Coach Hannes Wolf has to leave Hamburger SV after the end of the season.
  • Two days earlier, the club had a corresponding message in which also sports director Ralf Becker had been cited, still denied.
  • For Wolf the separation after the missed ascent is "comprehensible".

After weeks of confession to the coach, football second division Hamburger SV will now but separate from Hannes Wolf. "Hannes Wolf had the wish that we make a decision later this week and we have agreed that we separate at the end of the season," HSV Sport Board Ralf Becker said on Friday. The decision was "understandable for me," said Wolf.

After the missed goal of the season – the immediate return to the Bundesliga – the CEO Bernd Hoffmann and Becker drew the expected consequences. The home game against MSV Duisburg on Sunday will be the farewell performance for the 38-year-old coach.

Already after the 0-3 home defeat just two weeks ago against relegation-threatened FC Ingolstadt, the Aus had indicated for Wolf. Becker moved away from the coach for the first time after he and Hoffmann had always excluded a separation from the native Bochum in recent weeks and months. But first it was decided once again that Wolf should be allowed to continue.

However, it followed on Sunday the 1: 4 in Paderborn and the failure in the promotion battle, which accelerated the sporting end for Wolf. Becker had Wolf on 23 October as successor to Christian Titz brought and equipped with a contract until 30 June 2020. Titz had not been credited by the club's superiors after ten match days to return to the first league.

The team under Titz had still brought on average 1.80 points. Wolf's cut was far below 23 games with 1.52 points. In the second half (16 points in 16 games) only 1.0 points.
