San Bonifacio Hosts Inclusive Baseball Event for All Abilities

San Bonifacio’s municipal baseball grounds hosted an event on Sept. 26 that brought together regional officials, community organizations, and athletes with varied physical and sensory abilities for a day of inclusive sport.

The “Crazy: Tutti Titolari” event, organized by the ASD Crazy Sambonifacese Baseball & Softball club at the San Bonifacio municipal baseball facility, aimed to transform traditional sports spaces into environments for participation among people with diverse physical abilities and life experiences. The gathering operated under the banner of a broader social inclusion initiative, drawing on a network of community partners.

The local club, which counts more than 230 registered members, integrates specialized programs including Baseball for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Saturday’s programming utilized the venue’s two diamonds to host inclusive trials alongside a competitive fixture between the home side and La Leonessa Brescia.

Local Officials Support Blindfolded Baseball Demonstrations

The day’s events received institutional backing from the Municipality of San Bonifacio alongside support from ULSS 9 Scaligera via its social inclusion framework. Regional and local political figures attended the Saturday gathering, stepping onto the field to take part in the demonstrations.

San Bonifacio Mayor Leonardo Frigo and Sports Councilor Francesco Malgarise joined participants on the diamond, trying out batting and base-running while blindfolded to experience the adaptations firsthand. Regional representatives also traveled to the venue, including Regional Councilor Diego Ruzza, who holds delegations for Transport, Mobility and Public Works, Regional Councilor Elisa De Berti, and Regional Councilor Matteo Pressi.

Assessing the atmosphere across the facility’s diamonds, Regional Councilor Ruzza summarized the collaborative scope of the program with a single phrase: “Due campi, due attività, una sola squadra”—referencing two fields, two activities, and one unified team.

Community Network Supporting the Sambonifacese Club

The success of the September gathering relied on a cooperative network. Alongside municipal and health authority support, the ASD Crazy Sambonifacese club coordinates its ongoing calendar with local organizations dedicated to social integration.

Key institutional partners involved in the broader framework include the CPL of San Bonifacio, the Il Fiore Cooperative based in Monteforte d’Alpone, and the UICI Verona. Organizers noted that these partnerships allow the club to maintain inclusive programs as a permanent component of its athletic offerings rather than a one-off demonstration.

On-Field Demonstrations Against La Leonessa Brescia

The centerpiece of the athletic schedule featured the Baseball for the Blind match between the host side and La Leonessa Brescia. The game showcased the auditory and spatial adaptations that allow athletes with visual impairments to play competitively on a standard diamond layout.

Participants without visual impairments also took part in modified drills on the adjacent diamond, rotating through sensory-deprivation exercises designed to highlight communication and teamwork. Local organizers reported that the event reinforced the club’s principle of keeping athletes active and involved rather than leaving anyone on the bench.
