Erikas Kalinicenko is preparing for his third season with Cáceres Patrimonio de la Humanidad in Spain's Segunda FEB after surviving the most challenging period of his career. The 29-year-old Lithuanian small forward returns to full competitive fitness following a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the 2024-25 campaign, an injury that limited his appearances to the final six games of the regular season.
A Complete Summer Preparation Changes the Outlook
Unlike his rushed return to the court in March, when the league was already operating at peak intensity, Kalinicenko has been able to complete a full pre-season training block from day one. Speaking during his official presentation at the facilities of Ingulados, a club partner, the 1.97-meter wing emphasized that the physical base built over the summer completely changes his outlook for the upcoming fixtures.
Last season, the forward pushed to return early in order to help his teammates during the stretch run, but he acknowledged that he remained far off the physical tempo of the division despite his knee being perfectly recovered. Starting the preparation period alongside the squad has allowed him to acquire the necessary match fitness and physical endurance required for Segunda FEB competition.

Knee Tendonitis Creates Uncertainty Ahead of the League Opener
Despite completing the summer sessions, Kalinicenko faces a minor physical hurdle ahead of the opening fixture. He missed a preparatory match against the Spanish Basketball Academy due to inflammation in the patellar tendon, leaving his availability for Sunday’s league debut against Toledo uncertain. When asked directly about whether he will take the floor for the opening tip, the forward kept his status open, stating he did not yet know if he would be cleared to play.
The immediate priority for the player and the coaching staff is ensuring he reaches full physical capacity without risking a setback following such a prolonged layoff. The club supported Kalinicenko throughout his lengthy recovery, offering him a long-term contract extension after he felt initially happy during his first year in Cáceres, cementing a bond forged during what he described as one of the ugliest parts of the sport.
Roster Experience and Continuity Shape the New Cáceres Squad
Assessing the composition of the new Cáceres roster, Kalinicenko pointed to heightened experience and tactical continuity as key assets for the upcoming months. Four players remain from last season’s squad alongside the coach and technical staff, establishing a familiar foundation that allows the team to resume its rhythm smoothly.
The Lithuanian forward noted that the current squad features more players who understand the demands of the category, alongside an increased scoring capability. He expects the team to display a joyful attacking style from the opening tip of the season.
When discussing competitive targets, Kalinicenko adopted a cautious stance, arguing that Segunda FEB’s high parity makes it impossible to establish definitive goals before the ball goes up. The league’s unpredictable nature means any team can defeat the second-placed team or lose to the last, leaving the standings to dictate the club’s true ceiling as the season progresses.
