The Offenbacher Kranlauf returns to the Offenbacher Hafen on Saturday, October 3, bringing together runners, walkers, and community organizations for its annual charity event supporting the AIDS-Hilfe Offenbach. Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. local time, with city council chairman Sven Malsy serving as patron and opening the races following welcoming remarks.
A Tradition of Sports, Culture, and Social Support
Established in 2017, the benefit run has maintained its presence in the city's calendar, continuing during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering individual participation options when central gatherings were restricted. Organizers from the AIDS-Hilfe Offenbach, alongside the municipal sports office and local partners, built the event around three core pillars: promoting athletic activity, supporting the vital work of AIDS-Hilfe, and highlighting the development of the new harbor district.
The gathering coincides with the Day of German Unity, combining athletic competition with a neighborhood festival atmosphere. Participants can choose to jog, run, walk, or stroll at their own pace, with accommodations for individual pauses and participants with handicaps. Event organizers emphasize an inclusive policy designed to welcome all members of the community regardless of fitness level or background.
Public Health Awareness and Community Engagement
Sarah Burhenne, chairwoman of the AIDS-Hilfe Offenbach, emphasized the ongoing necessity of public health education during the event. “The progress made in HIV and AIDS research is still insufficiently recognized by society today, even though HIV infections and AIDS are an issue that affects everyone and stops at no boundaries, cultures, music styles, sports, religions, or income brackets,” Burhenne said. She noted that this awareness remains particularly critical during periods when sexually transmitted infections are on the rise.
The organization’s central motto for the day remains running, celebrating, gathering information, and contributing to a charitable cause. Beyond fundraising, the initiative aims to build long-term connections across different neighborhoods, residents, and civic organizations within Offenbach.
Entertainment, Food, and Local Partners
Alongside the running tracks, the event functions as a traditional neighborhood festival in the harbor area. The Pilots Offenbach baseball club will host a sports presentation, while live music is scheduled from the band “Ohne Fronten,” alongside contributions from the Cantina-Clan. Food and beverage stations include sweet cakes from the Ladies-Circle, crêpes prepared by Zararoula Bellou, coffee from Coffee Roasters, and traditional sausages and soft drinks supplied by the THW Helferverein Offenbach. Depending on weather conditions, ice cream will be provided by the SPD.
Event moderation duties are shared by Marcus Schenk and Daniel Kumelis. The staging of the event relies on broad institutional and corporate backing, including Qurban Quartiersmanagement, Boxclub Nordend, the Offenbacher Leichtathletikclub, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, the THW Helferverein Offenbach, the Offenbacher Feuerwehr, jahnkedesign, Gathof Druck, Stadtwerke Holding Offenbach, Infektiologikum Frankfurt, Sparda Bank Hessen, local DM-Drogerien, and the Sparkasse Offenbach, alongside numerous volunteers and local political groups.
Registration and Corporate Participation
Companies, political parties, and local organizations have the option to purchase charity starting slots—such as 20 slots for adults aged 18 and older, or 40 slots for minors—and make them available to employees, customers, club members, schools, or local institutions. The AIDS-Hilfe Offenbach issues official donation receipts for these corporate contributions.
