Nikola Grbić plans to invite Novak Djokovic to Volleyball World Championship

Novak Djokovic could make a high-profile appearance at the upcoming FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in Poland after national team coach Nikola Grbić confirmed he plans to invite the tennis legend to the tournament. Poland secured their latest international triumph by winning the European Championship title in Milan, extending a remarkable podium streak under Grbić’s leadership.

Grbić Responds to Mielewski’s Invitation Proposal

The prospect of Djokovic attending the world championship emerged during a television exchange following the Polish national team’s return from Italy. Speaking with Polsat Sport journalist and commentator Jerzy Mielewski, Grbić addressed whether he could bring his fellow Serb to Poland for a tournament match next September.

“Novak Djoković congratulated our coach on 10 medals in 10 tournaments… So I asked today whether N. Grbić can invite Nole to Poland for a match during the World Championship—‘I’ll try, because we know each other,’ our coach replied,” Mielewski wrote in his broadcast notes, adding a suggestion to draw Serbia into Poland’s tournament group.

Poland’s World Championship Hosting Duties

The FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship is scheduled to run for 16 days, opening on September 10. Poland will serve as one of the primary hosts for the global showcase, with matches spread across multiple major venues in Olsztyn, Gdańsk, Łódź, Kraków, and Katowice.

Katowice’s Spodek arena has previously drawn prominent sports figures to its stands during major volleyball fixtures, including Polish ski jumpers Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki.

Unprecedented Consistency on the International Stage

The European Championship gold medal won in Milan represents the tenth podium finish for the Polish national team under Grbić across major international competitions, a run that also includes success in the Volleyball Nations League. That sustained excellence has cemented the squad’s status at the top of the international game and generated intense domestic interest ahead of the home world championship.
