City officials and club leaders finalized an arrangement that converted a portion of the sports organization’s annual facility rental dues into a direct capital improvement, replacing 610 square meters of aging flooring without draining public funds.
A Modernized Surface for Competitive and Community Play
In its place, contractors installed a high-performance parquet system designed to meet modern athletic standards for both competitive league matches and daily community recreation.
The upgraded facility serves hundreds of athletes across multiple age groups, hosting training sessions, youth leagues, and basketball courses. Because the Aldo Moro arena functions as the city’s primary indoor sports venue outside of the larger PalaDesio, municipal leaders prioritized a surface durable enough to handle heavy daily wear while offering optimal shock absorption and player safety.
Financing the Renovation Through Rental Credit Conversion
Rather than funding the project directly from the city budget, the municipal administration structured an agreement that allowed Pallacanestro Aurora Desio to finance the entire 610-square-meter installation. The club covered the material and labor costs by utilizing a credit the city held against the organization for annual facility rental fees covering the Aldo Moro arena, local gyms, and the PalaDesio.
Giorgio Gerosa, the municipal assessor for sport, praised the financial arrangement for keeping the project fiscally responsible. “We are happy to have found the right solution with Pallacanestro Aurora, transforming an rental fee due to the Municipality into a concrete and lasting intervention for the structure,” Gerosa stated, thanking club volunteers and administrators for identifying high-quality suppliers.
Club Leadership Emphasizes Community Impact
For Pallacanestro Aurora Desio, which competes in the national Serie B basketball championship and operates an extensive youth sector and minibasket program, the upgraded flooring represents an essential investment in local youth development. Club president Ivan Papaianni highlighted the broader significance of the project for hundreds of local families and athletes.
“Pallacanestro Aurora, which carries the name of Desio in the national Serie B championship and involves hundreds of youngsters and families through its youth sector and minibasket, expresses great satisfaction with this intervention,” Papaianni said. He thanked the municipal administration for its cooperation in bringing the project to fruition.
