Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey announced on Tuesday that he is dealing with a broken right wrist according to reporting from ESPN. The eight-time Pro Bowler sustained the fracture during the opening series of the Steelers’ 30-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Even with the fracture, Ramsey stayed on the field for every single defensive snap of the contest, finishing the game with eight tackles. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the 31-year-old defensive back described how the injury felt during the matchup.
Uncertain Status Ahead of Thursday Night Matchup Against Cleveland Browns
The quick turnaround for Week 4 places Ramsey’s availability in doubt. The Steelers are scheduled to play against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, leaving a tight window for evaluation.
In advance of the matchup at Cleveland, Ramsey was listed as limited in practice on Monday and Tuesday, wearing a brace or cast on his injured right wrist. Whether he takes the field depends entirely on functional protection and his capacity to perform at his usual standard.
“I got to be able to protect it, obviously. [It’s a] broken wrist, so it’s not like I can’t really do anything about it. It’s just going to be about seeing if I’m able to protect it and also still be myself in a good enough capacity where I feel like if I go out there, I won’t be letting any of my teammates down.”
