Les Filons du Cégep de Thetford have officially launched their inaugural baseball season, assembling a 22-player roster designed to compete across regional and international circuits. The newly formed program has mapped out a demanding 31-game schedule running from September through April, balancing local fixtures with a heavy travel load that spans multiple provinces and the United States.
Building a Program Across Borders
The program’s ambitious calendar tests the 22 athletes against varied competition levels and styles of play. Out of the 31 scheduled contests, team records show that 16 will be played in the United States, eight in Ontario, and seven in Quebec. Through their opening seven games of the season, Les Filons have secured four victories.
Opening Home Stand at Stade Desjardins
Local baseball fans caught their first live look at the squad last weekend during the team’s home debut at Stade Desjardins. Les Filons dropped that matchup 15-7 against the Baseball Academy of Canada. Despite the home-opener loss, head coach René-Dave Pelchat pointed to steady development as the primary benchmark for the organization’s success.
«Nous avons un très beau groupe de joueurs qui travaille fort chaque jour et qui adhère pleinement à notre projet. Même si certains joueurs possèdent déjà une expérience importante, plusieurs autres progressent rapidement. Notre objectif est de faire progresser tout le groupe et de permettre à chacun de se développer,» Pelchat said of the team’s trajectory.
Geographic Makeup of the 22-Player Roster
The roster draws talent from multiple pockets of the province. While the majority of the 22 players hail from the greater Quebec City area, the lineup also features athletes from Gatineau, Rivière-du-Loup, Victoriaville, and Shawinigan, establishing a broad regional footprint for the Cégep de Thetford athletic department.
