More than 60 athletes gathered on the tatami at the Polideportivo de Blanca Dona for the opening School Judo Control of the season, hosted by the Ibiza Judo Delegation. Directed by island judo delegate Juan Francisco Blázquez Mayans, the morning session brought together developing competitors from infant and cadet categories alongside senior fighters.
Refereeing Seminars Precede Island Randoris
The event opened with a technical briefing on officiating led by island refereeing chief Rodrigo Martínez. Young competitors received detailed instruction on the criteria and regulations they will face during the upcoming competitive calendar. Following the seminar, athletes participated in a joint training block featuring randoris—sparring sessions designed to test techniques against rivals from across Ibiza. Clubs represented on the mats included Club de Judo Sant Jordi, Dojo Ibiza, Gokyo Riu, and Samyd.
Absolute Champions Secure Balearic Qualification
Immediately following the school control, the Polideportivo de Blanca Dona hosted the Ibiza Absolute Championship, serving as the official qualifier for the Balearic Absolute Championship scheduled for October 17 in Mallorca. Competition produced several standout individual performances across weight divisions. In the women’s brackets, Tanit Mercier of Dojo Ibiza claimed the -48 kg title, while Club de Judo Sant Jordi secured three divisional crowns through Aisha Ferrer (-57 kg), Carla Torres (-63 kg), and Adriana Ferrer (-70 kg).
On the men’s side, Club de Judo Sant Jordi representatives dominated early weight classes, led by David Palerm in -60 kg, José Jiménez in -66 kg, and Raúl Roig in -81 kg. Dojo Ibiza answered with strong championship displays from Víctor Ripoll in -73 kg, Bruno Odera in -90 kg, and Antonio Fernández in +100 kg. All newly crowned island champions earned direct entry into the Balearic tournament, where they will compete for regional honors and a subsequent berth in the national sector phase of the Spanish Absolute Championship set for the final weekend of October.
