Organized by the Sascha Möller Tennis School in cooperation with the local club, the weekend event featured four distinct divisions designed to maximize match play for all entrants.
Tournament Format and Division Breakdowns
Competition across the weekend was structured to accommodate varying participant counts through two primary formats. The women’s singles and men’s 40 singles brackets utilized a traditional knockout system paired with a consolation round. This configuration ensured that competitors who exited the main draw early could secure additional matches and earn ranking points. Meanwhile, the men’s 50 singles and men’s 40 doubles competitions played out in a round-robin group format due to field sizes.
Youth Triumph in Women’s Singles
Twelve-year-old Claire Sahm of the Kappelner Tennis Club captured the women’s singles title in a mixed field featuring competitors ranging from ages 12 to 43. Sahm faced Mieke Wolter of Flensburg in the final, recovering after dropping the opening set 4–6. She leveled the match with a 6–2 scoreline in the second set before sealing the victory with a tight 10–7 margin in the match tiebreak. Another local entrant, Tilda Köhler, also represented the host club in the women’s draw but faced a challenging opening path that ended without a win.
Competitive Action in Men’s Brackets
The men’s 40 singles tournament delivered high-level encounters, culminating in a victory for Hendrik Staack of the Schleswiger Tennis Club. Staack advanced past Lasse Matthiesen of the Kappelner Tennis Club 6–2, 5–7, 10–7 in a semifinal before defeating Yngve Pagels of the Friedrichstädter TV 6–3, 7–5 in the title match. Several other Kappelner representatives competed in the draw, including Dennis Vilaumi, Tobias Diern, Michel Helmchen, Andreas Köhler, and Max Lauenstein, with Lauenstein joining Staack and Pagels in the latter stages before falling in the semifinals. In the men’s 50 singles round-robin group, Carsten Dräger of the Sörupener Tennisclub claimed first place by defeating Inno Korus, Thorsten Gräfe, and Thomas Müller without dropping a match. Thorsten Gräfe of the Kappelner Tennis Club finished second in the group standings. The men’s 40 doubles title went to KTC sports officer Dennis Vilaumi and his partner Christian Freystedt.
