Stijnen clarified that while no immediate decision has been finalized, the prospect of a career pivot is a subject of active discussion within the club. He noted that he is currently in talks with CEO Wouter Corstjens and club president Coley Parry to determine the best path forward for the organization’s growth. Stijnen explained that he is currently managing a hybrid workload, describing his present situation as a combination of both trainer and sporting director duties, and admitted that “on a certain day, that switch will happen.”

While the team recently secured a victory in the Belgian Cup, the poor start to the league season has prompted internal introspection. “If you have been a coach of a club for so long, it might not be a bad thing to look at the next step,” Stijnen said. Since taking over as trainer in 2018, he has overseen the club’s rise through the tiers of Belgian football, including championships in the Second National and First National divisions. Before his transition into management, Stijnen was a goalkeeper in Belgian football. Born in Hasselt, he rose to prominence at Club Brugge, where he collected 30 interlands for Belgium and secured two league titles and a Belgian Cup. Following a stint at Beerschot from 2011 to 2013, he moved into coaching, initially with Sporting Hasselt before finding his home at Patro Eisden.
