Five archers from the Chubut province are representing Argentina at the 3D Archery World Championships in Yankton, South Dakota, marking a historic moment for the region. For the first time, the national team features a simultaneous, dual delegation from both the coastal and mountain regions of the Patagonian province, competing on the global stage under the sanction of World Archery.
Patagonian Archers Compete in South Dakota
The competition, held at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center, runs from September 28 through October 3. Unlike traditional Olympic archery, which utilizes fixed distances on flat ranges, the 3D archery discipline requires competitors to move through natural terrain and estimate distances to three-dimensional animal silhouettes. This format tests a shooter’s ability to adjust for incline, decline, and varying environmental conditions in an outdoor setting.
Coastal Representation from Puerto Madryn
The coastal contingent is led by athletes from the Club Universitario Arqueros del Golfo in Puerto Madryn. Carolina Escalada enters the tournament following a gold-medal performance at the 2025 Pan American Field Archery Championships in Mexico. Escalada, who holds national records in the Traditional Female division, is joined by teammate Ángelo Petrelli. Petrelli, a former president of the Puerto Madryn club, secured the national title in the Senior Barebow category at the 2025 championships in Monte Hermoso. This appearance marks his second World Championship, following his participation in the 2024 edition held in Slovenia.
Mountain Region Athletes from Trevelin
The mountainous region of Chubut is represented by three archers from the Círculo de Arqueros de la Región Patagonia Oeste (CARPO) in Trevelin. This institution has focused on developing its own dedicated training grounds to support regional athletes. The CARPO delegation includes Nicolás Ripa, a national runner-up and administrative leader, and Maximiliano González Fanuele, the gold medalist from the national final, both competing in the Traditional Men’s category. Claudine Giroux rounds out the group, participating in the Women’s WA Compound division as one of the country’s most consistent performers in national federation rankings.
Competition Schedule and Technical Requirements
The event schedule began with formal accreditation and technical equipment inspections, followed by the first official practice rounds. Throughout the week, the athletes will compete in qualifying and elimination phases to determine the 2026 world medalists. The tournament serves as a high-level test for the Argentine team, specifically in the 3D format, which demands precision in non-marked distance shooting. The final results of the elimination rounds are scheduled to conclude on Saturday, October 3.
