The Judo Club Jocondien, based at the Léo-Lagrange dojo at 1, rue d’Amboise in Joué-lès-Tours, has kicked off its new season with strong membership retention and a diverse range of martial arts offerings. Now in its fiftieth year, the organization continues its mission to provide accessible judo and associated disciplines to practitioners of all ages and skill levels.
Membership Stability and Club Growth
Club leadership reports that the current season reflects a period of organizational health, characterized by a significant rate of returning members. According to treasurer Aurélie Mariou, the club currently maintains approximately 190 registered members, with an 81% renewal rate.
The demographic profile of the membership remains broad, with programs starting for children as young as age 4. Among the active members, women account for approximately 40% of the total enrollment, a figure the club highlights as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain an inclusive environment.
Disciplines Offered at the Léo-Lagrange Dojo
While judo remains the core focus of the club, the facility at 1, rue d’Amboise provides instruction in several other martial arts and fitness disciplines. The club offers jujitsu and self-defense courses, both of which are available to participants aged 12 and older. For those interested in fitness-oriented training, the club also hosts taïso sessions for practitioners starting at age 14.
President Julien Couvrand, who leads the club alongside vice-secretary Charles Bonnac and treasurer Aurélie Mariou, noted that the club continues to integrate new members into these programs. Currently, there are limited openings remaining for individuals interested in joining the judo and jujitsu classes for adolescents and adults.
Organizational Leadership and Community Reach
The Judo Club Jocondien has operated as a staple of the Joué-lès-Tours community for five decades.
