Unicaja Baloncesto Honored by Mahou San Miguel for Impact on Málaga
Mahou San Miguel recognized Unicaja Baloncesto on Monday for its role in promoting the city of Málaga through sports. The award was presented as part of the “Málaga, 60 Years of Shared Life” initiative, marking the 60th anniversary of the company’s production center in the city.
Recognition of Sports Projection in Málaga
The award ceremony took place at the Mahou San Miguel Production Center, where Unicaja Baloncesto was honored specifically for the “Projection of Málaga through Sport.” Club President Antonio Jesús López Nieto accepted the award, accompanied by club ambassadors and former players Carlos Cabezas and Berni Rodríguez.
Mahou San Miguel stated the distinction recognizes the club’s efforts in carrying the name of Málaga both within Spain and internationally, which the company noted generates a sense of belonging through athletic achievement.
Long-Term Partnership and Sponsorship Extension
The event highlighted a corporate relationship between San Miguel and Unicaja Baloncesto that has lasted more than 30 years. This partnership was recently renewed and is scheduled to continue through the 2030-31 season.

The company described the bond as a union between two symbols of Málaga that evolve alongside the city’s development.
Other Honorees of the 60th Anniversary Event
Unicaja Baloncesto was one of several individuals and institutions recognized for their contributions to the economic, social, cultural, and sporting development of the city. Other awardees included:
- Antonio Banderas: Recognized for the international projection of Málaga.
- Manuel Villafaina: Owner of Chiringuito Los Manueles and president of the Andalusian Federation of Beach Entrepreneurs, honored for the promotion of culture and shared leisure.
- Málaga City Council: Recognized for its overall trajectory.
In response to the honor, Unicaja Baloncesto expressed gratitude to Mahou San Miguel and congratulated the company on its 60-year history of operation via its local factory.
