German handball playmaker Juri Knorr will leave Danish club Aalborg Handball in the summer of 2024 to join French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, completing a high-profile double transfer alongside national teammate Renars Uscins. The 26-year-old playmaker is departing Denmark one year before his contract expires, triggering what Aalborg officials confirmed as the largest transfer fee in the club’s history.
A Record-Breaking Departure from Aalborg
Knorr arrived in Denmark ahead of the 2025–26 season after transferring from the German Bundesliga side Rhein-Neckar Löwen. During his tenure with Aalborg, he helped secure the Danish league championship, the domestic cup, and the domestic supercup.
Aalborg team manager Martin Larsen described the 26-year-old German international as a valued member of the squad but acknowledged the club’s stance on player retention. „Umgekehrt haben wir aber kein Interesse daran, einen Spieler zu halten, der andere Zukunftspläne hat. Sollte ein derartiger Verkauf zusätzlich beträchtliche finanzielle Einnahmen einbringen, stellt das für uns selbstverständlich ebenfalls einen entscheidenden Aspekt dar“, Larsen stated regarding the financial package and the player’s personal ambitions.”
Addressing the early termination of his contract, Knorr expressed appreciation for his time in northern Denmark while confirming his readiness for a new chapter. „Ich war und bin unglaublich glücklich, bei Aalborg Handbold zu sein. Dennoch möchte ich diese neue Herausforderung annehmen und bin daher sehr zufrieden, dass ich gemeinsam mit dem Verein eine Lösung finden konnte, die allen Beteiligten zugutekommt“, Knorr said.”
Building a German Core in Paris
The move to Paris Saint-Germain marks the third international station of Knorr’s professional career. He previously played abroad for Spanish giants FC Barcelona between 2018 and 2019 before establishing himself as a central figure in the German national team.
In Paris, Knorr will link up with fellow German international Renars Uscins, who is also scheduled to join the French capital club in the summer of 2024.
The Parisians will also undergo a coaching transition ahead of that season, with current MT Melsungen coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo taking over the technical leadership at the French club in the summer.
