The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 14:00 local time, shortly after the visiting team, La Unión, scored a 4-3 goal in stoppage time to complete a comeback in the Primera Juvenil fixture.
Stoppage-Time Goal Triggers Brutal Pitch Invasion
The match stood at a 3-3 draw when the referee, identified as Yago García Aparicio, signaled for added time. During these closing minutes, La Unión secured the go-ahead goal, sparking immediate outrage from the home supporters in the stands. As soon as the ball crossed the line, multiple local fans breached the perimeter and rushed onto the pitch, confronting and assaulting the official, according to local reporting.
Father’s Intervention and Emergency Response
The referee’s father, who was watching the game, attempted to intervene and protect his son but was also targeted and assaulted during the melee. Emergency services and the Guardia Civil were dispatched to the venue following the disturbance. Due to the severity of his condition, paramedics called an ambulance to the scene, evacuating both the young referee and his father to a medical center in Zaragoza for treatment of their injuries.
AESAF Demands Public Authority Status for Officials
The Spanish Association of Football Referees (AESAF) issued a strong condemnation of the violence, describing it as entirely unacceptable. The organization stated that it is crucial for competition authorities to deliver a firm, coordinated, and exemplary response to the incident.
AESAF emphasized that safeguarding match officials is a basic condition for the normal functioning of football at every level and formally requested that referees be granted legal status as public authority figures while performing their duties to enhance their protection against threats and assaults.
Club Deportivo Pina Denounces Actions and Pledges Support
The local host club, Club Deportivo Pina, released an official statement expressing strong condemnation of the events at their facilities. The organization stated that the actions could not be allowed to tarnish the educational and human development work carried out daily by its members.
Club representatives confirmed they assisted the two injured parties and activated fair play protocols immediately. The club also stated they placed themselves fully at the disposal of local authorities to assist in identifying the perpetrators, clarifying that the individuals involved in the assault were neither members of the club nor related to them.
