Historic Olympiapark Anchors the Urban Layout
The core of the proposed layout centers on the historic Olympiapark, which is slated to host a massive roster of events including 3×3 basketball, traditional basketball, BMX, football, artistic gymnastics, handball, synchronized swimming, track and field, modern pentathlon, skateboarding, sport climbing, table tennis, trampoline, triathlon, water polo, and diving. Track cycling is also mapped to the Olympiapark, though planners have kept Nuremberg under consideration as an alternative venue for the discipline.
Landmarks and Arenas Across the Münchner Stadtgebiet
Beyond the park, distinct urban landmarks form the backdrop for outdoor and specialized disciplines. The Theresienwiese is designated for beach volleyball, while Schloss Nymphenburg and the Englischer Garten provide picturesque settings for equestrian events. The BMW Park will accommodate badminton and rhythmic gymnastics, and the MTTC Iphitos grounds are set to host tennis matches.
Football fixtures and rugby competitions find homes across multiple iconic local stadiums. The Allianz Arena and the Grünwalder Stadion will both stage football and rugby matches. Meanwhile, the Odeonsplatz serves as the dramatic finish line for road cycling. The Reitanlage Riem is dedicated entirely to additional equestrian events, and the Messe München exhibition center transforms into a multi-sport combat and indoor arena for boxing, fencing, weightlifting, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, and indoor volleyball.
Specialized Venues in the Münchner Umland and Beyond
Surrounding municipalities absorb sports requiring specialized water courses, open ranges, and expansive terrain. Oberschleißheim takes on archery, canoe sprint, and rowing. Eichenried is assigned golf, Unterhaching handles hockey, and Garching hosts the shooting competitions. The grounds surrounding Flughafen München are also designated for swimming events.
The Starnberger See is marked for open-water swimming, and Bad Wiessee takes mountain biking. Augsburg handles canoe slalom alongside football matches. Football group matches and regional games extend to stadiums in Nuremberg—which remains an alternate for track cycling—as well as Ingolstadt and Stuttgart. For maritime competition, Kiel anchors the sailing program.
