Müller Crushes Cina to Reach Chengdu Quarterfinals

French tennis player Alexandre Müller advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu, China, after defeating Italy’s Federico Cina 7-6, 6-1 on Saturday.

Müller, ranked 135th in the world and a former top-40 player, is reaching the quarterfinals of a main tour event for the first time since the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech last April.

The journey to the main draw in Chengdu required winning the qualifying rounds.

A Sunday Showdown Against Davidovich

His straight-sets victory over Cina on Saturday sets up a Sunday quarterfinal match against the tournament’s second seed, Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich, who is currently ranked 29th and making his return to competition after an absence of more than two months.

Mannarino Joins Countryman in the Final Eight

Müller is not the only Frenchman remaining in the singles draw at Chengdu.

Top Seed Vacherot Stunned by Harris

While Müller and Mannarino advanced, the tournament’s top seed experienced an early exit. Valentin Vacherot of Monaco, ranked 19th and given a first-round bye, lost his opening match on Saturday in the second round.

Vacherot fell 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) to Lloyd Harris, a 136th-ranked qualifier. The defeat comes just ahead of the Shanghai Masters, scheduled for October 7-18, a tournament Vacherot won in 2025.
