Lukas Neumayer Bows Out in Genoa Quarterfinals After Straight-Set Loss to Luka Mikrut
Austrian tennis player Lukas Neumayer exited the ATP Challenger tournament in Genoa at the quarterfinal stage, falling 3:6, 4:6 to unseeded Croatian opponent Luka Mikrut. Seeded third in the tournament and currently holding an ATP singles ranking of 183, Neumayer struggled to convert early momentum as Mikrut mounted a two-set victory on the Italian clay.
The 24-year-old Salzburger established an immediate advantage in the opening set by breaking Mikrut’s serve in the very first game. Neumayer held further opportunities to widen his lead when he earned three break chances at a 3:1 scoreline, but failed to capitalize on the openings. Mikrut seized the momentum shift, securing a break to level the score at 3:3 before adding a second break to pull ahead 5:3, subsequently serving out the opening set.
The second set followed a similar trajectory of missed opportunities for the Austrian contender. Neumayer dropped his service game early, conceding a break to love to trail 0:1. Although he battled back into the contest by securing a rebreak to draw level at 3:3, Mikrut engineered a decisive late break at 4:4 and held serve to close out the second set 6:4.
With the defeat, Neumayer matches his recent quarterfinal exit at the Challenger event in Tulln. The tournament run concludes with Neumayer holding a 183 ranking, while Mikrut advances carrying an ATP ranking of 214.
