Sinja Kraus battled past Estonia’s Elena Malogina in a three-set marathon, winning 6:7 (5), 6:3, 6:4 to secure her place in the semifinals of the WTA 125 Challenger in Porto.

A Gripping Opener and a Break-Filled Battle

The first set proved a tight affair on court, with neither player giving an inch. Malogina, ranked No. 287 in the WTA singles rankings, showed sharp timing during the crucial moments of the opening frame and converted her first set point in the tie-break to take a one-set lead, closing it out 7:6 (5).

Following that tightly contested opener, the match swung into a chaotic stretch defined by service breaks. Both competitors repeatedly traded breaks amid a multitude of opportunities, pushing the total number of break points in the match statistics to 35. Kraus maintained her composure through the volatility, finding her footing to capture the second set 6:3 and level the match.

In the deciding set, Austria’s number three raised her level when it mattered most. Showing superior timing as the three-hour mark approached, Kraus engineered a crucial break to edge ahead 5:4. She then served out the match cleanly, holding her service game to love to seal the 6:4 final set and complete the comeback.
