This victory marks a historic semifinal qualification for the Kinshasa-based club, ending a 12-year absence from the tournament’s final four stage.
Controlling the Game in Kinshasa
Playing in front of a vocal home crowd, BC Molokaï established control early against the club from Kolwezi. The Kinshasa side built a 37-29 lead by halftime, following quarters of 19-17 and 18-12. Following the intermission, the team known locally as the “Villageois” tightened their defensive schemes and capitalized on fast-break opportunities, outscoring BC Mariapolis 21-16 in the third quarter and 23-8 in the fourth to secure the 81-53 final score.
A Historic Return to the National Stage
Friday’s win represents a major resurgence for BC Molokaï within the national tournament structure. Prior to this campaign, the club’s last appearance in a national semifinal occurred during the fourth edition of the modern Coupe du Congo format back in 2013.
