The Pas Piélagos⁺ (Plus) inclusive basketball team, established in autumn by the Ayuntamiento de Piélagos in collaboration with the Club Pas Piélagos, has officially opened registration for its second season, running from October 1 to May 31. Training sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:00 local time, with priority registration given to local residents through the municipal activities portal.
A Growing Sports Initiative in Piélagos
What started during the inaugural 2025–2026 campaign as a primarily recreational activity has steadily evolved into a more structured athletic program. Under the direction of coaches Rebeca Hoyuela and Gaspar Diego, the initiative takes place at the Polideportivo del CEIP El Mimbral in Renedo, where the team maintains its base. The program aims to foster social inclusion and personal enjoyment through sport for children, starting at age six, and young people with intellectual disabilities or functional diversity.

Expanding Beyond the Hardwood
Building on the success of their first year on the court, participants recently took part in the municipality’s inaugural inclusive basketball summer campus throughout July. Operating under the banner “Basketball and More,” the program offered a varied schedule of sports, local hikes, and excursions to Santander. Coach Gaspar Diego noted that the dozen participants—ranging in age from 12 to 40—explored municipal sports facilities including the Vimenor complex in Vioño and the Fernando Expósito facility in Renedo, trying out football, tennis, volleyball, petanca, traditional bolo pasiego, and swimming.
In Santander, the group visited the maritime museum, local historical sites, and regional cultural landmarks while also enjoying beach activities. Rebeca Hoyuela explained that the camp served to reinforce relationships, autonomy, and teamwork, highlighting that sport functions as a practical tool for building community opportunities.
