According to reports from the track, the young Spanish rider utilized a soft rear tire to establish a comfortable gap during the mid-session runs before maintaining his advantage through the checkered flag.
Acosta Leads the Way at the Red Bull Ring
Operating with strong pace throughout the session, Acosta briefly held a margin of 0.611 seconds over his rivals before the late-session time attacks compressed the leaderboard. While subsequent flying laps from competitors reduced his overall buffer, no other rider managed to eclipse his benchmark time.
Aldeguer and Ogura Surge into Top Three
Fermin Aldeguer finished the session in second place with a lap of 1:28.508, sitting just 0.127 seconds behind Acosta after climbing out of the lower positions during the frantic closing minutes. Ai Ogura of Trackhouse Racing capitalized on a late surge to secure third place with a time of 1:28.568, edging out Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez ended the session fourth overall at 1:28.585. The veteran rider employed a distinct strategy by executing a long run on a heavily used medium rear tire before switching to a soft compound for a late flying lap.
Bezzecchi Survives Late Drama to Secure Q2 Berth
Marco Bezzecchi experienced a turbulent conclusion to his practice run when his initial fast lap was canceled due to track limits. Compounding the issue, a crash by Jack Miller at Turn 2 forced Bezzecchi to check his speed on a subsequent attempt, leaving him with a single clean lap. He ultimately salvaged ninth place with a 1:28.811, doing just enough to earn direct entry into Q2.
Jorge Martin completed the top five, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth and Brad Binder in seventh. Alex Marquez placed eighth after overcoming an earlier crash that temporarily triggered a red flag, while Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top ten.
Bagnaia Faces Q1 Obstacle
Francesco Bagnaia missed out on an automatic Q2 transfer after slipping down the order during the late time attacks. Finishing the session in 18th place with a 1:29.266, the Italian rider will be forced to contest the opening qualifying phase.
Among the 2026 rookies, Diogo Moreira finished 13th with a 1:28.939, navigating past a brief yellow-flag zone following a crash by Johann Zarco at Turn 4. Toprak Razgatlioglu concluded the session in 22nd position with a 1:29.982.
