Alexander Zverev secured his second career Grand-Slam title by defeating American player Ben Shelton 6:3, 7:6 (7:2), 5:7, 6:2 in the US Open men’s singles final in New York, according to match reports. The German controlled the subsequent tie-break decisively, taking it 7:2 to push his lead to two sets to none. Shelton increased his aggression in the third set, capitalizing on a late service break at 6:5 to claim the set 7:5, but Zverev rebounded swiftly in the fourth to seal the championship.

With the victory, Zverev becomes the second German man to win the US Open singles title after Boris Becker’s 1989 achievement. He also matches Becker’s feat of claiming two major titles in a single calendar year. Reflecting on the milestone, Zverev noted that German tennis waited 30 years for a Grand-Slam title before capturing two in the span of three months during the 2026 season.
The victory earned Zverev a record prize of $5.5 million (around 4.7 million Euro). Furthermore, the ranking points narrowed the gap between Zverev and the tour’s top-ranked player, Jannik Sinner, heading into the final stretch of the season.
