Seattle Mariners Lázaro Montes rewrote the T-Mobile Park record books on Tuesday by launching a 474-foot home run, tying the longest major league blast of the 2026 season and setting a new standard for the stadium in the Statcast era.
Playing in his debut Major League Baseball season, the 21-year-old from Havana connected off Texas Rangers pitcher Cal Quantrill in the fourth inning. Montes pulverized a 94.7 mph fastball, sending it traveling toward the right-center field seats with an exit velocity of 116.1 mph. The towering shot brought three runs home for Seattle, cutting the Rangers’ lead to 4-3 before Texas ultimately pulled away for a 10-5 victory.

Mike Zunino previously held the ballpark record with a 470-foot home run on June 29, 2018—a mark that stood for eight years until Montes surpassed it. Across the entire history of the Mariners franchise under Statcast tracking, Montes’s drive ranks second, trailing only Jarred Kelenic’s 482-foot home run hit at Wrigley Field in April 2023.
A Rapid Ascent to the Big Leagues
Montes arrived in Seattle’s lineup following a progression through the professional ranks. The Mariners signed him as an international free agent in January 2022 for $2.5 million. He earned his promotion after a dominant minor league campaign in which he hit 37 home runs, drove in 93 runs, and posted a .941 OPS, earning recognition from MLB Pipeline as the No. 43 prospect in baseball and the third-best talent in Seattle’s farm system.
