Athletes from the Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco secured a total of 12 medals, including five silver and seven bronze finishes, at the third edition of the Torneo GI.BI. A.M. held over the weekend at the gymnasium of the Manzoni/Tommaso Grossi institute on via Ghislanzoni in Lecco, according to local reports. The regional competition brought approximately 90 competitors from across Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, Trentino-Alto Adige, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio to the venue.
Lecco Squad Secures Five Silver Medals Across Categories
The host club fielded 16 players across the two-day schedule, capturing five second-place finishes in various doubles divisions. In the men’s doubles category, Andrea Saverio and Paolo Milani of Brescia Sport Più claimed silver, while Denis Passador and Amir Atash Faraz of New Sport finished second in the Over-35 men’s doubles. Edvidio Milani and Fabio Ballabio representing Polisportiva di Nova took second in the Over-55 men’s doubles.
Additional silver medals came in women’s and mixed competitions. Roberta Brenzone and Maria Branca of GSA Chiari placed second in the Over-55 women’s doubles, and the pairing of Denis Passador and Roberta Brenzone earned silver in the mixed doubles.
Seven Bronze Medals Add to Club Total
The host contingent also secured seven third-place finishes on the podium. Matteo Maggioni earned bronze in the men’s singles event, and Denis Passador added a third-place finish in the Over-55 men’s singles. In doubles play, Grazia Barlassina placed third in the women’s doubles alongside partner entries, while Nicolò Borin and Matteo Pessina took bronze in the men’s doubles.
Category Winners and Tournament Structure
The competition featured singles and doubles draws partitioned into Senior, Over-35, and Over-55 age brackets. In the Senior division, Asswanth Baskara Vanitha of BC Milano won the men’s singles title, and Veronica Carella of Lario BC captured the women’s singles crown. Liam Pellizzari and Gianluca Troccoli of Lario BC won the men’s doubles, while Veronica Carella and Alice Pellizzari took the women’s doubles. The Senior mixed doubles title went to Asswanth Baskara Vanitha and Clara Fredholm of Junior BC Milano.
In the Over-35 division, Amir Atash Faraz of New Sport won the men’s singles, and Loredana Iordan of Modena BC won the women’s singles. Nicola Mondaini of SC Merano and Steven Nsubuga of Roma BC claimed the men’s doubles, while Loredana Iordan and Yanina Mustafina of 3B Bassa Bergamasca won the women’s doubles. Amir Atash Faraz and Nauremitapa Pattaneeporn of Roma BC secured the Over-35 mixed doubles.
For the Over-55 division, Solan Arachchinge Roan Appuhamy of 15Zero swept the men’s singles and partnered with Kingsley Kadupity to win the men’s doubles. Sabine Doering and Sandra Gargano of 15Zero captured the women’s doubles, and Solan Arachchinge Roan Appuhamy teamed with Sabine Doering to win the mixed doubles.
Club Leadership Reflects on Turnout
Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco president Denis Passador expressed satisfaction with the event turnout despite facility constraints. “We are very satisfied with the number of entries for the tournament, even though unfortunately with only four courts available, we cannot do more,” Passador stated, noting the geographical range of participating athletes and praising the overall level of play during the weekend fixtures.

Passador also thanked the participating athletes, coach Zanchin, referee Franco Tomasello, umpire Enrico Gariboldi, and the operational staff who supported the tournament execution.
