Badminton Esbjerg has opened its 1st division campaign with a commanding 7-2 home victory against Højbjerg 2, establishing an early statement of intent in the regional badminton landscape.
Last season, Højbjerg 2 secured a 6-3 victory over the Esbjerg side, making this opening-round result a notable turnaround for the hosts on their home court.
Badminton Esbjerg added Ukrainian international player Mariia Stoliarenko to the roster during the offseason, while Martin Harbo Andersen departed for OBK, according to regional reporting by Ole Bruun. The club’s current bruttoskad includes Lærke Thomsen, Trine Nedergaard, Mette Bannerholt, Mariia Stoliarenko, Heli Neiman, Mochamed Rehan Diaz, Erik Olsen, Easton Watson, Thomas Jensen, and Oliver Lee Nowak, with plans to integrate two upcoming Indian players into the squad.
While the first team celebrated a triumphant start, the club’s 2nd division side faced a challenging opening fixture against KMB2010, aiming to leverage home-court advantage in a demanding lower-tier matchup.
Beyond the badminton courts, sports across Esbjerg saw varied outcomes over the weekend. In football, Esbjerg forenede Boldklubber’s women’s team faced a difficult outing on the road, continuing a tough start to their campaign after collecting just one point from their opening three fixtures ahead of an away match against Sundby at Kløvermarkens Idrætsanlæg in Copenhagen. Former Esbjerg midfielder Andreas Lausen experienced a quiet afternoon for Gil Vicente, watching from the bench for the entirety of a 0-0 draw against Famalicao after securing starting nods in his first two Portuguese league appearances. Meanwhile, former Esbjerg player Jonas Mortensen featured as a 53rd-minute substitute for Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt in a 4-2 victory over Rosenborg, and former Esbjerg forward Mads Borchers scored his ninth goal of the season for Finnish powerhouse HJK Helsinki in a 2-1 win over Ilves.

In handball, Team Esbjerg head coach Tomas Axnér prepares for international duty with the Swedish national team ahead of a friendly fixture against France, alongside club players Olivia Löfqvist and Elin Hansson. Both Team Esbjerg and Ribe-Esbjerg HH have also learned their upcoming dates for the domestic cup round of 16.
