The Toronto Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets and optioned him directly to Triple-A Buffalo, according to transactions tracked on the Major League Baseball roster log. The 26-year-old backstop joins his third organization of the 2026 campaign after spending earlier stretches with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Mets.
Roster Shuffling in Triple-A Buffalo
To clear a spot for Ross on the roster, the Blue Jays outrighted outfielder Daz Cameron to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday morning, according to the MLB transaction log. Cameron had been designated for assignment by Toronto on September 1. Because he had already been outrighted earlier this season, Cameron holds the right to reject the assignment and elect free agency.
Cameron signed a minor-league deal with Toronto in July before the club selected his contract on August 15. In eight major league games with the Blue Jays, he batted .208 with one home run and three RBIs. Down in Triple-A, Cameron performed at a high level across 23 games, slashing .367 with a .462 on-base percentage, three home runs, 15 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts.
Shawn Ross’s 2026 Season Path
Ross began the 2026 season tracking through the Pittsburgh organization. During a brief two-game stint in the majors with the Pirates, he went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBIs. On August 2, the Mets claimed him off waivers from Pittsburgh.
Between Double-A and Triple-A stops over 70 total games this year, Ross has batted .184 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has walked enough to maintain a .333 on-base percentage while successfully stealing three bases in four attempts. The Mets designated him for assignment prior to Saturday’s waiver claim by Toronto.
Ross will report to Buffalo to stabilize the Bisons’ catching corps for the remainder of the minor league schedule. The Blue Jays return to action in their ongoing major league slate while evaluating upper-minors depth for the stretch run.
