The city of Recreo in Argentina has officially opened the Invencible Centro Internacional de Tiro Deportivo, marking the completion of the most modern shooting sports complex in Argentina and Latin America designed specifically under international standards to serve as a primary venue for the upcoming 2026 South American Games, according to local reports.
Infrastructure and Technical Specifications for Elite Competition
Located on the western sector of the former General Belgrano Military Lyceum grounds, the newly constructed facility is built to handle high-level international tournaments.
In addition to the indoor and outdoor target ranges, the venue incorporates three specialized shotgun ranges dedicated to Skeet and Trap shooting disciplines. The shooting ranges offer comfortable seating for up to 448 spectators. Facilities also include dedicated zones for athletes, delegations, authorities, and press services, alongside a support pavilion for the shotgun sector equipped with storage and sanitation amenities.
Regional Investment and the Road to Santa Fe 2026
The shooting center represents the sixth major sports infrastructure project delivered ahead of the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, which are scheduled to run from September 12 to September 26, 2026. Lucas Condal, Subsecretary of Architecture for the Ministry of Public Works of Santa Fe, noted that the facility was built in close coordination with the Santa Fe Shooting Federation and the Santa Fe Shooting Association.
The broader regional development is backed by a provincial investment exceeding 90 million dollars, with substantial funding provided by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. At the opening ceremony, Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro emphasized the broader social and economic goals of the project, stating that the new installations aim to foster sports tourism and provide local communities with modern assets that will remain active long after the continental games conclude.
Inauguration Ceremony and Guest Athletes
Governor Pullaro was joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Recreo Mayor Omar Colombo and Santa Fe City Mayor Juan Pablo Poletti. Several prominent figures from Argentine sport also attended the opening event, including medalist Alliana Volkart and Olympic athletes Alexis Eberhardt and Amelia Fourne.
Alongside the main shooting complex, municipal and provincial authorities oversaw urban improvements around the venue. Workers paved the extensions of Juan Pablo II and Leopoldo Lugones streets, adding curbs, drainage systems, and specialized street lighting. Pedestrian walkways, green spaces, and parking areas were also constructed, featuring directional and warning podotactile tiles designed to ensure universal accessibility across the grounds.
