The 11th Dolharbang Cup Fall National Para Badminton Championships concluded a three-day run at the Jeju Complex Sports Center, drawing roughly 200 athletes and staff from across South Korea for competition carrying major implications for national team selection, according to reports from domestic sports outlets.
Co-hosted and organized by the Korea Para-Badminton Association and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Para-Badminton Association, the tournament ran from August 28 to 30. Because the event carries the highest weight for national team selection points among domestic competitions, it drew top-tier athletes aiming for spots on the national squad, as detailed by event organizers.
Singles Divisions Showcase National Contenders
In the SL4 men’s singles division, Shin Kyung-hwan of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Hall team captured the title, marking a long-awaited return to the top of a national podium, according to event results. Jonathan of Seoul Medical Center finished second, while Kim Ji-sung of Incheon and Oh Soo-hyun of the Incheon Para Sports Association tied for third place.
Park Min-jae of Jeju claimed victory in the DB integrated men’s singles, while Park Min-kyung of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Hall team won the DB integrated women’s singles. The two Jeju athletes also teamed up to secure the DB integrated mixed doubles crown.
Additional singles champions included Lee Seung-hoo of Jeonbuk in the SL3 men’s division and Yoon Jung-eun of Gyeonggi in the SL3 women’s division. In other classifications, Choi Hee-jung of Chungbuk won the SL4+SU5 integrated women’s singles, and Lee Jung-soo of Seoul Medical Center topped the SU5 men’s division.
Wheelchair and Doubles Highlights
Athletes representing the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities dominated the wheelchair divisions. Jin Ki-beom won the WH1 men’s singles, Yoo Soo-young claimed the WH2 men’s singles, and Jung Gyeo-ul captured the WH1+WH2 integrated women’s singles. Yoo and Jin also paired up to win the WH1/WH2 men’s doubles title.
In other doubles matches, Jeon Sun-woo and Joo Dong-jae of the Incheon Para Sports Association won the SL3/SL4/SU5 men’s doubles. Jeon also teamed up with Kim Wi-soon to win the SL3/SL4/SU5 mixed doubles. The DB integrated doubles gold medal went to Hwang Sung-yeon and Jeon Seok-jin, representing Daegu and Chungbuk.
Association Leadership Perspective
Korea Para-Badminton Association President Kim Gyung-sung noted that the tournament’s high stakes sharpened the competition. According to Kim, the event demonstrated the strong overall competitiveness of South Korean para-badminton through exceptional athletic performances and focus.
Kim also acknowledged the close cooperation with the Jeju provincial association in staging the tournament, expressing gratitude to the participants and support staff while emphasizing ongoing efforts to improve training environments for athletes.
With the three-day competition concluded, participating athletes carry their newly earned ranking points into the ongoing selection cycle for the national team.
