But the time for roster debates is no longer; the official roster cut-down mark arrives Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
By that point, every team must have its 90-man offseason roster trimmed down to 53 players for the regular season. NFL teams must cut their rosters to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 30 — a slight new twist in the rules for 2026. Typically NFL cut-down day is the Tuesday following the final preseason game, so teams have less time to make roster decisions this year.
Teams are permitted to keep up to 90 players during training camp and preseason games, allowing for deep rosters and heavy evaluation.
